Late Nite Tuff Guy’s ‘Tuff Edits Volume 1’ was a complete revelation here at Tashed towers, so we’re understandably delighted that we can bring you a sneak preview of ‘Tuff Edits Volume 2’ – out 19th April on Lightspeed Recordings.

We hammered the first volume’s Gary Numan edit to death in the club towards the end of last year, and after marveling at his similarly refined reworkings of Kate Bush, Jan Hammer and others we took our new-found passion to obvious 21st century extremes, indulging in some embarrassing internet fanboy behaviour by creating and curating Last.fm profile pages etc. This particular Tuff Guy is most definitely worth it.

While it doesn’t boast the original’s five tracks of disco goodness, Volume 2 compensates with balls-out abandon. The muscular twosome of ‘Acid Over’ and ‘303’ are both guaranteed floor fillers, the former featuring a wicked little jazzy piano line while the latter opts for fat bass and gurgly acid house synths.

To be honest we don’t know much more about the (tuff) guy. He also goes by the name of DJ HMC, he’s Adelaide-based, and his music is damn fine. I guess that’s all we need to know. Let’s just hope the guys at Lightspeed keep the music coming…

Having kicked off their weekly Nu-Disco parties in 2005, Fromage Disco have emerged as one Australia’s hottest talents, with their distinct DJ skills being summoned to support such artists as Todd Terje, Aeroplane, Idjut Boys, Unabombers, Runaway, Richard Sen, Pete Herbert, Tim Sweeney, Joakim and more.

In 2008 the duo hit the studio, resulting in a series of highly-acclaimed edits that have become a staple of countless DJ’s worldwide. Not long after they were turning out remixes for the likes of Vitreous, Alex Ward, Toy Robots & ELKE and in late-2009 the pair released their original production, “Vicious”, on the British label Needwant.

Now, in 2010, the pair are set to continue their upward trajectory. With solid remixes from the incomparable Pete Herbert, the rising Wowlace and Impress Magazine’s “2009 Melbourne DJ/Producer of The Year”, DJ Agent 86, we are presented with the latest Fromage Disco sensation: “Acidic Strings“.

To be fair, Lightspeed Recordings have been releasing excellent music at a very high standard of late and every time we see something new from them, we jump up and get all excited.
