Jut because this promo came in today, we had to do a post. For real.

And because we absolutely dig this dude’s music.

Luke Million has been on our overheated radar for ages now and is the hectic keys player and synth wizard from The Swiss. He often starts his morning by bench pressing his Yamaha CP-70 and drinking 3 or 4 shakes of reel to reel tape.

On the first side is the stella italo jam “Arnold”, which we have all toned our biceps to for a while now. On the flip side is “Sun Splash” – a SMOKING new tropical beast that should please fans of our Poolside 12″ and early Metro Area workouts.

Check out the “Arnold” video clip we have put on all our channels:

Woah look who’s still alive. We are! And just to prove it, here’s a brand new mix fresh out of the over. Featuring stellar cuts from the likes of Tony Lionni, Session Victim, Julio Bashmore, Sigha, Martyn, Midland and Lone.

Here are a few words from RTYPE on the mix:

“With this mix I wanted to create something that really captured the sound of summer – that festival vibe, partying outdoors with your best friends and those memorable sunrise/sunset moments and the tracks that made them special. I was using classic house and early 90s rave as reference points, but the whole mix turned out quite deep, and only gets a little rowdier towards the end. Anyway, please do listen and leave me some feedback, I hope you have as much fun listening as I did putting it together.”

We’ll keep this one brief… more because of a lack of tangible information than a desire to be pithy and readable. We don’t know a great deal about new-age two-stepper Roof Light, other than that he’s very, very good at the old production business.

South London and/or borderline home counties with the name Gareth Munday on his passport – that’s pretty much all we’ve got on the hard facts front. Not that it matters though when the slew of EPs he’s released since late last year have just been getting better and better. Resident Advisor and plenty of other influential sites are rating him, making the obligatory Burial comparisons (mournful, chopped vocals make that a dead cert) but also noting the undeniable attention to detail and broad sound palette.

The two tracks we’ve got for you showcase two sides of the Roof Light sound. ‘Heart Like An Airport Runway‘, taken from last year’s ‘In Your Hands EP‘ , is an insistent, skippy number that plants one foot firmly in deep house territory and other in the whole floaty, future-garage camp. ‘Taro‘ on the other hand is a murkier affair, all midnight rain and urban decay with a bassline that grumbles with intent. Still, there are even chinks of light emerging from this track, and one of the most consistently impressive thing about Roof Light’s productions is the spectrum of half-clouded emotions they evoke.

New EP ‘What Makes You So Special‘, out now on Highpoint Lowlife, is one of his best yet so click here to show the guy some love. As an extra special treat, we’re including a link to his Last.fm page where you can (rather unbelievably) download his debut album ‘Kirkwood Gaps‘ entirely for free. It’s a rare treat, so enjoy!

Some might be confused as to what Matthew Dear does. Some say he is a DJ, others think he is a dance-music producer, and many say think he is simply the co-founder of both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound.

He maintains four aliases (Audion, False, Jabberjaw, and Matthew Dear), each with its own style and distinct visual identity. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none—and he’s just hitting his stride.

So how do you begin to define someone who belongs to nowhere but everywhere at the same time? Well, at least he ultimately belongs to the sphere of musical genius that many wish for but few possess.

Today, Matthew Dear finds himself in another unique position. His highly anticipated fourth album, 2010’s Black City, is the culmination of years of hard work and experimentation, a darkly playful sound-world that envelops the listener like the arms of a malevolent lover. He is never tethered to any one genre, and now it is clearly Matthew Dear’s moment, and it sounds like nothing else. (Paragraph taken from Ghostly)

From one distinct artist to two upcoming future maestros who have such clear styles in their music. Breakbot and Nicolas Jaar try their hand at tweaking Matthew Dear’s genius for one track from ‘Black City”, “You Put A Spell On Me”. We are particularly taken by Nicolaas Jaar’s music of late and allow us an attempt to be clairvoyant, but he is head and shoulders above the slew of new music we hear week in and out. We have come to only expect the best from him, and he still surprises us each and every time.

Two remixes, two vastly different tracks entirely. 3 dinstinct sounds. Matthew Dear, we can only wish we can swim in that black city of yours.

Many have attempted to be part of the recent chillwave/dreampop resurgence, but few get remembered (by us at least). We cannot claim to be absolute fans of the genre, as it is either a hit or miss for us at times.

But being polarized does not render us unappreciative of the music, and the likes of Millionyoung, Memoryhouse, Washed Out, Toro Y Moi, Memory Tapes and Com Truise really stick to our minds.

We can now add Houses to this exclusive list that we are trying to compile in our tiny minds.

It is one of the most understated and intimate albums released this year with a lovely and simple story behind it – Read what Dexter from Houses has to say about the album:

“I got laid off from my job at the end of last year and decided I needed a change. My girlfriend put in her two weeks and we moved out to a little cabin in Papaikou, Hawaii. It’s a pretty remote place outside of Hilo (i.e no plumbing/electricity/gas).

We worked for meals during the day cultivating microorganisms and learning the basics of sustainable living. We drank showered and cooked with rain water. In our downtime, she would paint and I would re- cord. We’d have to light candles in an effort to save solar power to keep my computer running. We inspired each other a lot out there, and I think it shows on the album. The music comes from a place of love and ease.”

Being away from the sprawl of the city often gives one clarity and this album clearly shows what it means to make music as pure as this. It was released in October this year, but we can be certain we will soak it all up for a long time to come.

MP3 HOUSES – SOAK IT UP

Memoryhouse recently released Heirloom/Caregiver and we really should leave the images and music with you for full effect. Few words can describe music which can create such an impact for simple, soothing sounds.

Sometime over the past ten years Ghostly International quietly turned into one of the world’s best labels for interesting, glitchy electronica. Some fantastic 2010 releases have cemented this reputation (e.g. Matthew Dear’s ‘Black City‘), and their latest offering from Brooklyn débutante Shigeto makes sure the standard stays sky-high.

With a name that references his Japanese ancestry and a punchy, eclectic approach that evokes Jackson and his Computer Band, Flying Lotus and Prefuse 73 to name but a few, Shigeto AKA Zach Saginaw has been receiving well-deserved plaudits for his first full-length ‘Full Circle‘ (out now, click here to buy). We’d been meaning to listen to the album for a few days (so many tunes, so little time), and when we finally dropped the metaphorical needle it was clear that this album’s the real deal. The production is tight and inventive, incorporating a host of field-recorded source material, and there’s more than enough variety across the ten tracks to make ‘Full Circle’ a thoroughly engaging listen.

Picking a stand-out track is tough. So tough that we’ve decided to avoid the risk of monumental brain-strain and posted two of our faves. You decided which one you prefer, we think they’re both excellent.

It’s undeniable that there’s a beautifully natural quality to their sound, a completeness that’s reminiscent of such pastoral heavyweights (if that’s not a complete oxymoron) as Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss. It’s testament to how much Mike Paradinas‘ UK label Planet Mu has evolved that acts like Solar Bears now rub shoulders with original IDMers like Shitmat and Luke Vibert. Check out the lead track from their recent ‘Inner Sunshine EP‘ below to see why we’re hyping them so hard.

Blimey, where does the time go? We’d love to offer up a few choice excuses for the radio silence but now is not the time. No, now is the time to discuss the impending arrival of our favourite disco double act – the excellent Glass Candy and Chromatics, who perform live at Zouk Singapore this coming Thursday 4th November.

We got out first introduction to New Jersey label Italians Do It Better back in 2007 with their now legendary ‘After Dark’ compilation (which is incidentally one of the best label samplers we’ve ever heard), and it’s no exaggeration to say we’ve been hooked on Mike Simonetti and Johnny Jewel’s unique blend of Italo, dark pop and John Carpenter-inspired dystopian synthwork ever since. The standout tracks on that album were undoubtedly Glass Candy’s ‘Rolling Down The Hills’ and Chromatics’ ‘Hands In The Dark’, and it’s fitting that these two acts, both centred around the considerable musical talents of Mr Jewel, have gone on to release some stunning music over the past couple of years.

We got a taste of Chromatics’ live show in London when they were touring breakout album ‘Night Drive’ back in 2007, and we can heartily attest that the icy-cool yet paradoxically tender ambience that permeates their studio material translates very well to the stage. It’s a satisfyingly intimate experience not easily forgotten, and we’re expecting that double-header with the artfully glamourous wham-bang of a typical Glass Candy live should yield excellent results. If only we could expect some new material some time early next year… What’s that? Both of them? Oh. WIN
