We like producers that hold down full-time jobs or studies. Not because of any snooty aversion to success or misguided notions about the creative pitfalls of ’selling out’, but simply because we love the commitment: guys and girls that work flat out 9 to 5 in the office or library then flat out 7 to 3 in the bedroom studio, strictly for love of the music.
22 year-old Arthur Cayzer AKA Pariah is one such producer, although we’d be willing to place a sizeable bet on him being able to avoid the grim prospect of a ‘proper job’ once he graduates. London-based and specialising in the same kind of backstreet melancholia and alienation as Burial, the Scot released debut EP ‘Detroit Falls‘ on R&S records back in March, joining the likes of Aphex Twin, Juan Atkins, Kenny Larkin and Derrick May as graduates of this esteemed Belgian label.
The title track does a bang-up job of reworking a golden motown sample, but it’s the deliciously downbeat and reflective tone of ‘Orpheus‘ that has us drooling at the prospect of new EP ‘Safehouses‘, due later this month. Check out ‘Orpheus‘ and his fantastic reworking of The XX below…

The guy is hot property at the moment, so there’s plenty more goodies out there to get stuck into. He recently had an enlightening little chat with FACT, and has also recorded an awesome promo mix for Fabric Live. You can stream this one below.
