PRINS THOMAS S/T ALBUM

Music | jon.ramsay | April 3, 2010

Here’s a real treat for all lovers of slick Nordic disco (that’s everyone right?)… Prins Thomas’ highly-anticipated debut solo album will be dropping April 4th on his own label Full Pupp. From the days of Major Swellings to the infamous releases with Lindstrøm, this represents yet another direction for the man.

What’s more we’ve got hold of one of the album’s new tracks for download, and it seriously whets the appetite for the disco delicatessen his self-titled album is sure to be.

Uggebugg’ is a classic Prins Thomas slow-burner. It’s got the fat bass, the tight, insistent highs, plenty of swirly instrumental layering and even some glockenspiel (damn we love glockenspiel). Also thrown into the mix are some Morricone-esque wild west guitars and some squelchy Doctor Who noises. In short it’s every bit the sublime piece of disco wizardry we hoped it would be.

Seven tracks in length, the album was recorded entirely in Prins’ Oslo studio, with long-time collaborator Lindstrøm next door and Todd Terje just down the hall. In fact Lindstrøm and Todd did the neighbourly thing and recorded keyboard and trumpt parts for the album, although the vast majority of the instruments are played by Prins himself.

Check out the Full Pupp MySpace for a list of the man’s upcoming dates. He put in a legendary performance in Singapore recently, so we can assure Italian readers that they’re in for some seriously good times. Oh, and there are apparently quite a few new singles in the pipeline too… we are being seriously spoiled here!
