The world fell in love with Caribou’s ghoulish single “Odessa” when it spilled onto the scene a few weeks back, with a video capable of inducing fuzzy nightmares so creative you wish you could go through it in HD all over again.

Caribous’s latest album ‘Swim’ is hardly accessible but if one takes time with it, bittersweet pleasures abound with the various layers of bass and less obvious melodies taking centre stage. We were genuinely surprised with how many people took a liking to the track, and we think it might be Daniel Snaith’s familiar vocals (he has been around for a decade already after all) but we are glad with the fact that people are beginning to appreciate his music.

So it seems, we the hoi polloi are not the only ones who took a liking to “Odessa”. Ramona Gonzalez aka Nite Jewel (Italians Do It Better) took a liking to the track and decided she should do a remix for it.

If you listen to it, you will realise it is way more than just a simple remix. Re-worked and re-interpreted, it is a different beast altogether, albeit a shiny, glamourous one. Adding new melodies, beats and synths to the track, we were stunned with the new take on the track and we lost our orientation for a while.

We were more than happy to lose our orientation this time round.
