We all believe things come and go in cycles and if anyone is complaining about The Mary Onettes sounding too 80s, they shoud really search their souls.
Swedes have a knack of tugging at our heart strings in recent years and its no different this time with The Mary Onettes. Being under Labrador Records mean their label mates include The Legends, Sound Of Arrows & The Radio Dept. Wonderful company.
In all brutal honesty, they have not exactly changed much after their debut self-titled album, and while there is not much of a unifying theme with the new album, it is chock full of amazing singles to listen to repeatedly.
As much as we expect bands to evolve and reinvent themselves often, The Mary Onettes make such simple and gorgeous music that you actually wish they do not change their style.
“Puzzles” is such an epic track, you can play it in your own room and absolutely drift into your own world, reminiscing over days where The Cure were that effin’ good. Not to say they remind you of The Cure, but more of how much you missed and loved music like this.
Days where alternative was the term used instead of indie.
Dramatic, dreamy pop is what they do almost better than anyone now and we absolutely approve of them. Get this album already.
