In a recent interview to promote U2’s album ‘No Line On The Horizon‘, which has just been released, Bono had some pretty damn harsh opinions about Chris Martin.
When asked by BBC Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley if Martin was as talented as Paul McCartney, Bono replied this: “I think he’s that good a melodist, but he’s a wanker.”
He was then pressed on the spot for an apology, and said: “I’m a reformed character, I don’t any more.”
We love the attitude.
He went on to say that Martin was “obviously a completely dysfunctional character and a cretin, but he happens to be a great melodist and up there with Ray Davies, Noel Gallagher and Paul McCartney.”
Harsh harsh words for Chris, but Bono attempted some damage control much later in the interview, saying “I think [Coldplay] are a great band and, actually, it turns out [Martin's] a great soul as well. Sorry about that. I was just joking entirely.”
Let the war begin.
U2’s first single off their new record is called “Get On Your Boots”, which according to Bono is an east African slang term for using a condom.
We have heard the album, and its really brilliant,
Wait for the review, but here’s a wonderful cover Johnny Cash did of U2’s track “One” a real long time ago.
It is still utterly brilliant.
We would have loved to have dropped the Crookers remix of the new U2 single, but we know the consequences all too well.
