ALBUM OF THE MONTH [JAN] : WHITE LIES – TO LOSE MY LIFE

How did a relatively unknown band previously known as Fear Of Flying create such massive hype and trump the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Antony & The Johnsons to be the top album, not only here at TASHED but in the UK charts??

Three quarters of the band are barely out of their teens, but they seem so damn polished and immaculate, not only in terms of their sound, but in presenting themselves.

Why name themselves WHITE LIES in the first place?

They have mentioned in interviews that they call themselves White Lies because they are “..common but quite dark, and thats how we see ourselves”. It set things just about right , and they seem to have really thought through what this band represents to them and the world.

Their music on the other hand is potentially going to eclipse many other upcoming releases, and sets a bloody high bar for the rest of the year. They don’t sound or act like the average indie band, hip & fun but forgotten over the decades.

They seem like the Killers/Arcade Fire/Interpol of today and it is bloody exciting.
A bold statement it is but we have our reasons.

They sing about death, fears, murders, the forgiveness of God and even about emotionally destitute celebrities.
None of the fleeting stuff like teaching boyfriends how to dance are present in their songs.

What comes in the near future, we will never know.
Will they end up being a adolescent’s favorite band or make U2 look like history?

We only expect really really really great things.

  1. I am loving the Crystal Castles remix, which is odd considering how much I dislike the actual band… though I do have to admit they put on a great show.
