Its really not nice to introduce a band as “the one with the song used in the ipod ad”.
Its a given that a band would get a much more attention and scrutiny if their songs are used in an apple commercial.
The title of my post also didn’t highlight that..
It would be convenient to do so but no i’m not gonna do that.
It doesn’t do Chairlift justice.
The song used in the ad was bloody brilliant and I really don’t know how apple keeps on doing it.
Creative and other tech companies selling music players should take a leaf out of their book and know what good music is and use it in their commercials. They are after all selling music players.
From Feist to The Ting Tings and now Chairlift, Steve Jobs is spot on once again.
“Bruises“, the song used for the ad was sweet, simple, cheery and will make you think music is such a breezy beautiful thing.
But don’t rush in like fools and go on thinking that Chairlift is an indie/twee pop band.
They are as hard as most rockers come. And the rest of their stuff is brilliant in a different manner.
From supporting MGMT as an opening act earlier this year, to going on tour with Yeasayer in the upcoming months, they are on the way to gaining the cred they deserve. (if they don’t already have it by now)

My friend actually placed the ad. Basically, there’s a listserv out there that shoots out emails to music bloggers when companies want “hip” songs. They give a set up and basically have bloggers pitch songs and concepts to them.
